Statement from President Robert L. Caret on UMass Board of Trustees' leadership change

UMass President Robert L. Caret

I want to congratulate Trustee Victor Woolridge on his appointment by Governor Charlie Baker to serve as Chair of the UMass Board of Trustees. Trustee Wooldridge has been a vital member of the BOT for many years, most recently chairing the Committee on Administration and Finance, a key committee in the stewardship of the University's resources and capital projects. Trustee Wooldridge is an inspired choice to lead the BOT given his professional background in finance and his devotion and commitment to the University's advancement. I am confident he will provide great leadership of the University system at this time of transition.

I also want to give a heartfelt thanks to outgoing Chairman Henry M. Thomas III, who has presided over an era of growth and achievement that helped to jettison UMass into the top tier of public universities in the nation. His chairmanship has been marked by his unflagging commitment to making a high quality, affordable education accessible for all students and his determination to use the University as a catalyst to create economic opportunity. On a personal note, I want to thank Chairman Thomas for his advice, guidance and friendship as well as the grace and good humor he has exhibited in his service to the Commonwealth.
