Associate Professor Jessica Schiffman, the interim department head of the Chemical Engineering Department at UMass Amherst, has been selected to the “2021 I&EC Class of Influential ers – the Americas” by the journal Industrial & Engineering Chemistry (I&EC), a mainstay in the field of chemical engineering since 1909.
The journal, published by the American Chemical Society, says that its global team of editors and editorial advisory board members identified this class of influential, early career researchers on the basis of the quality and impact of their research.
Schiffman was chosen from a large and talented group. In addition to the recognition she received for being named an Influential er, Schiffman was the lead author on a peer-reviewed publication that was part of the 2021 Class of Influential ers Special Issue, which was published on Dec. 8, 2021. Schiffman’s paper on “Optimizing the Packing Density and Chemistry of Cellulose Nanofilters for High-Efficiency Particulate Removal” was published as part of this special issue.
I&EC says that it is the “largest, oldest, most cited, and most selective general-interest chemical engineering journal” in the profession. This virtual special issue includes a commentary, reviews, and original research articles invited from the talented group of early career scientists and engineers selected as this year’s influential researchers.
